How to Successfully Prioritize Requirements


It can be difficult to get stakeholders to define priorities for requirements.  It’s all important, right?  But if everything is urgent, then nothing is urgent.  Effective priorities are critical for making the best use of your stakeholders’ time and the organizations resources.

There are lots of approaches to prioritization, and many different factors must be taken into consideration.  It’s also important to realize that priorities can change, so we need to be prepared for that.   Our instructors compiled a list of analysis techniques and ranking mechanisms that they’ve used to successfully prioritize requirements and provide value on their projects.  You may find one of these useful the next time you encounter a prioritization conflict.
